Traffic routing modes: Global, rules and Direct

iPhone & iPadUpdated

Traffic routing decides which traffic goes through the VPN. Global sends everything through Pekpik VPN and is the right choice for most people. The rules mode (called Split Tunneling on iPhone) sends some sites through the VPN and others directly, using templates and your own rules. Direct sends nothing through the VPN.

What you may see in the app

  • Settings saved. Will take effect on next connection.
  • Saved immediately. Applies the next time you connect.
  • Settings are saved automatically. When connected, reconnect on Windows to apply them.
  • Routing mode saved. Reconnect to apply

The three modes

  • Global: all traffic goes through the VPN.
  • Rules (Split Tunneling on iPhone): traffic is split by rule templates and your custom rules. Each rule matches a domain or an IP range and sends it through the VPN (Proxy) or around it (Direct).
  • Direct: traffic bypasses the VPN. Use it only when you deliberately don’t want your traffic protected.

If some sites or apps don’t work while connected, check that you’re not in the rules or Direct mode by mistake before trying anything else.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Pekpik VPN and tap Account.
  2. Under PRIVACY & SECURITY, tap Traffic Routing.
  3. Choose Global, Split Tunneling or Direct. For Split Tunneling, pick a rule template or add custom rules.
  4. Your choice is saved right away (tap Save if you’re connected). It takes effect the next time you connect, so disconnect and connect again to apply it now.
