“Windows protected your PC” when installing Pekpik VPN

Windows

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC” for installers that haven’t built up a download reputation yet. It doesn’t mean a virus was found. If you downloaded the installer from pekpik.com and its checksum matches, click More info, then Run anyway.

What you may see in the app

  • Windows protected your PC

Check the file first

  1. Make sure you downloaded the installer from the Windows download page on pekpik.com.
  2. Open PowerShell and run Get-FileHash followed by the path to the installer and -Algorithm SHA256.
  3. Compare the result with the SHA-256 on the download page. If it doesn’t match, delete the file and don’t run it.

Run the installer

  1. On the Windows protected your PC screen, click More info.
  2. Check that the app name is the Pekpik VPN installer you downloaded.
  3. Click Run anyway.
  4. When User Account Control asks whether to allow the app to make changes, click Yes.

Don’t turn off SmartScreen to get past this screen. More info > Run anyway only applies to this file.
