No internet on Windows after disconnecting or a crash (Kill Switch)

Windows

On Windows, Kill Switch blocks all internet traffic outside Pekpik VPN whenever the VPN isn’t connected, including after you disconnect or quit the app. To get your internet back, connect again or turn Kill Switch off in Account > Privacy & Security. If the app can’t open or crashed, you can remove the block with one command run as administrator.

What you may see in the app

  • Status: Service unavailable
  • Blocks non-Pekpik internet traffic when disconnected and only allows TUN traffic when connected

Why you have no internet

Pekpik VPN’s Kill Switch adds Windows Firewall rules that block outgoing traffic except Pekpik VPN itself and your local network. The rules stay in place while you’re disconnected, so nothing leaks outside the VPN. That also means browsers and other apps can’t go online until you reconnect or turn Kill Switch off.

Quitting Pekpik VPN from the tray disconnects the VPN, but doesn’t turn Kill Switch off.

Fix 1: reconnect or turn Kill Switch off

  1. Open Pekpik VPN from the tray icon, the desktop shortcut or the Start menu.
  2. Connect to a node. Your internet works again through the VPN.
  3. Or, to use the internet without the VPN, go to Account > Privacy & Security and turn off Kill Switch.

Fix 2: the app won’t open or shows “Service unavailable”

Kill Switch is switched off by Pekpik VPN’s background service. If the service crashed or didn’t stop cleanly, first restart your PC: the service starts again with Windows, and you can then turn Kill Switch off in the app. If that doesn’t work, clear the rules by hand. This needs administrator rights.

  1. Click Start, type cmd, right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator. Click Yes when asked.
  2. Type this command and press Enter: "C:\Program Files\Pekpik VPN\veilod.exe" --disable-kill-switch
  3. Wait a few seconds, then check your internet connection.

If you installed Pekpik VPN in a different folder, use that folder in the command. Your Kill Switch setting in the app may still be on; turn it off in Account > Privacy & Security if you don’t want it to block traffic next time you disconnect.

Uninstalling also removes the block

The Pekpik VPN uninstaller turns Kill Switch off and removes its firewall rules. If you can’t get the command above to work, uninstalling from Settings > Apps > Installed apps also clears it. See Uninstall Pekpik VPN.
